So on the album there is a cover of Waiting Game by Banks. Today Banks posted on facebook that she was shocked that NJ put that song on their album when she hasn’t even released an album yet.
However, that is technically not true since the song was on an EP she released so it was released commercially. Once a song is commercially available, it is legal for anyone to cover that song since it is now public domain.
It’s easy to blame the artist for something like this. But the girls probably had little say in this. It’s all from the label. They are a manufactured girl group that’s only been together for 1 1/2 year so they have little to no say on what’s goes on their album. They have no clout in the music industry since they are just starting out. The record label has the final say in what goes on the album.
Also artists rarely own the rights to the songs they write so consent is legally not needed. Whoever owns the right to the song (probably her label) sold the song without informing her which is a shitty thing to do. Unfortunately stuff like this happens a lot in the industry.
@Neon_Jess: before i go sleep.. a quick EL OH EL for ya 😂🙈 #babyneons
Nina neonjungleworld made some excellent points
At the end of the day the girls didnt even do anything wrong since
1) this is 100% legal they stated that it was a BANKS cover on their album
2) BANKS actually DID release the son on her EP last September
3)literally every artist in the whole world doesn’t ask the original artists consent before posting a cover
ure all making a big deal about this goodnight
so are neon jungle claiming “waiting game” as their own song???
No, it was a cover. And it’s pretty ridiculous to think someone is claiming a song as their own when the original artist had already released it as a single. While they didn’t ask Banks herself they still gave her full credit.
